The 2016 World Series is the 112th edition of Major League Baseball's championship series, a best-of-seven playoff between the American League champion Cleveland Indians and the National League champion Chicago Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs are returning to the World Series for the first time in 71 years on October 25 – November 2, after defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. The Cubs last appeared in the World Series in 1945, losing to the Detroit Tigers. Fans of the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians have waited a lifetime to see their teams win championships. The Cubs haven't won a championship since 1908. Chicago has the best combination of pitching, hitting and fielding in baseball. They won 57 times this year at Wrigley Field.

Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Chicago Cubs 8-4 in their first World Series trip, Chicago Cubs head home with a 3-2 lead

The Cubs have not won the World Series in 108 years, and they have not won the National League pennant in 71 years. On April 21 in the 2016 season, the Cubs hit five home runs, winning 16–0 against the Cincinnati Reds with Arrieta pitching the second no-hitter of his career.

By May 5's sweep of the Pirates and then the Nationals, the Cubs had started the year with a record of 24–6 in their first 30 games. The Cubs ended the 2016 regular season with a record of 103-58, the first time they have won over 100 games in a season since 1910, and secured the NL Central title. They advanced to the NLDS to face the wild card Giants. The Cubs defeated the Giants in the Series, 3-1.

Top Pitcher, Arrieta pitched in his second career no-hitter and the 15th no-hitter in Cubs history against the Cincinnati Reds in a 16–0 blowout win. He walked four and struck out six.Arrieta, who at the time of the no-hitter had not recorded a loss in his last 17 regular-season starts, became only the second MLB pitcher ever to go unbeaten (in regular-season play) between no-hitters, with the only other being Johnny Vander Meer, who threw consecutive no-hitters in 1938. The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated Arrieta and the Cubs 3–2 on June 5, even with 12 strikeouts in his first five innings, stopping a 20-game regular season winning streak and giving him his first loss in 11 months.

On October 9, 2016, in game 3 of the NLDS, Arrieta hit a three run home run off of San Francisco Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner in the top of the 2nd inning, giving the Cubs a 3-0 lead. This was the first time that a pitcher has ever hit a home run off of Bumgarner, in over 400 plate appearances. It also ended Bumgarner's consecutive playoff scoreless innings streak, of over 24 innings.

Infielders, Javier Báez during the first game of the 2016 National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baez stole home in the second inning. He was the first Cub to do this in a postseason game since 1907 when Jimmy Slagle accomplished this against the Detroit Tigers in game four of the 1907 World Series. Baez is also only one of 19 players in baseball history to steal home in a playoff game. Read more... buys and sells premium tickets to sold out Chicago Cubs games worldwide.
